Boplaas wines rated SA’s best by independent multi-platform index

Boplaas Family Vineyards in Calitzdorp has been singled out as the best performing Cape Port producer over the past 10 years, thanks to the multi-platform analysis of the authoritative South African Wine Index (SAWi). Amongst the accolades that ensured Boplaas’s achievement was a four-fold inclusion of its wines among the SA’s most excellent Ports.

SAWi’s system distils the collective results of over 100 competitions, reviews and listings to present a single score that represents the perceived value of a wine. This “algorithm of excellence” as the organisers refer to it, provides what is arguably the most accurate list of South Africa’s best wines.

The four Boplaas Ports that SAWi identified as most consistent champions were its Cape Tawny, Cape Vintage Reserve, Cape Tawny Vintners Reserve and Cape Vintage.

The Boplaas Gamka, a red blend of Portuguese cultivars, received a rating of “Excellent Wine of Distinction”. The wine amassed 91 points from Tim Atkin, Double Gold at the SA Top 100 and 4½ stars in Platter’s South African wine guide.

To be eligible for the classification at SAWi, which is updated annually since 2004, wines of the Cape must have earned “Very Good” to “Excellent” reviews from at least one of the top judging panels for a minimum three vintages during the 10-year period under review.
The wine competitions considered by SAWi include the Decanter World Wine Awards (UK), IWSC (UK), Platter’s South African wine guide (SA), Veritas (SA) and Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Competition (SA).
