Braai with Blaauwklippen this Heritage Day

Call it Heritage Day or Braai Day – either way, 24 September celebrates the many cultures that make us uniquely South African and what better way to celebrate than by uniting around a fire for good food and wine?

Hamm & Uys Eatery is the newest addition to Blaauwklippen, one of the earliest South African wine farms in Stellenbosch, and they’ll be serving up a heritage-inspired braai feast of traditional favourites made with their contemporary flair and cheeky twists.

From classic “government bread” braaibroodjie and West Coast mussels via gourmet plankievleis and smoked lamb on braai-style pizzas through to nostalgic desserts including Rice Krispie cookies, melktert, koeksisters and hertzoggies, the chef duo have dreamed up a menu perfect for celebrating South Africa’s diverse food cultures and influences.

TV chefs Johnny Hamman and Marius Uys recently brought their culinary flair to Blaauwklippen with their country-style, heritage-inspired Hamm & Uys Eatery. They met as competitors on the second season of reality cooking show Kokkedoor and are well known for their bespoke catering company Slippery Spoon Kitchen which specialises in tailor-made events and unique food experiences for weddings, private and corporate gatherings.
