#CapeWine2018 in full swing at Creation Wines

t Creation we’re happy to report that we’ve already been hosting the first of the CapeWine delegates on our estate. It’s been a pleasure to welcome, among others, Head Sommelier Julien Laugier and Food and Beverage Manager Somduth Takoor of The Royal Palm in Mauritius. Christo Hauptfleisch and Nick van der Merwe from Wild Travel are mutual friends and joined our table for lunch. Julien was particularly impressed with the Creation Viognier and the Rhône-style blends.

Sebastien Le Goff, Vice President Service and Head Sommelier of the Cactus Club Café and Sean Rowlands from Gradwell Wines in Toronto, came for a sunset tasting at Creation followed by a dinner at The Wine Glass, a new local wine bar in Hermanus. Sebastien was really excited about the wine and food experience at Creation, especially the ‘modernising’ of traditional dishes. His wine preferences were the Creation Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

On Monday 10 September we hosted 60 CapeWine guests from around the world for a tasting of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir produced in the three Hemel-en-Aarde Wards. Thanks to the unique terroir – in terms of geology, soils, aspect and climate – the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge has exceptional growing conditions for the production of these cultivars. The tasting was followed by a Chardonnay and Pinot pairing dinner attended by among others David Wong (Sommelier Macau), Filipe Santos (President of the Wine Society Macau), Peter Ranscombe (Scotland Media), Melania Joo (Managing Director Cape Valley Wines – South Korea) and Arjen Pleij (F&B Manager and Vinologist, Kasteel Engelenburg in the Netherlands).

Great company with a melting pot of ideas! It was also great to see Miguel Chan, Group Sommelier of Tsogo Sun again and show him the wines in our Art collection.

Creation: from Strength to Strength

In Neal Martin’s recently published ‘South Africa Wine Report 2018’ no less than six Creation wines boast a proud 90+ points. Both the Art of Chardonnay 2017 and the Art of Pinot Noir 2017 scored a magnificent 93 with the latter being one of the two highest scoring Pinots in the report.

Commenting on Creation, Neal, who is a Master of Wine and one of the most recognised names in international wine writing, says: “Under Swiss-born winemaker JC Martin (no relation), Creation Wines have gone from strength to strength in recent years. The focus is mainly, though not exclusively, upon Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the former undergoing more wild ferments with some inoculation with respect to the latter. Their 2017 Emma Pinot Noir, special barrel selection limited to around 750 bottles is well worth hunting down but if I had to choose, it is JC’s Chardonnays that really catch my eye in 2017, whereby even the regular Chardonnay sports wonderful lip-smacking salinity.”
