Celebrate Potato Chip Day with this tasty chicken, cheese and crispy McCain oven chips recipe

The 14th of March marks an auspicious occasion in which the humble spud, in possibly its greatest form, is celebrated worldwide. On International Potato Chip Day 2018, McCain Foods South Africa is giving you the “skinny” on everything related to the delicious and much-loved potato chip.

Whether you like your potato chips crispy, soft, golden or slap there is a chip to suit every taste and preference.

Almost 2.2 million tons of potatoes are produced annually in 16 geographical areas within South Africa, with the bulk of potatoes being harvested in the Western Free State and Limpopo. Just like not all things are created equal, not all potatoes are the same. There are many different potato cultivars (types) and each is for a different purpose. They have different textures, colours and flavours and this is how they are classified in terms of boiling, roasting, oven bake, mash or our favourite, frying.

At McCain, only the best potatoes are selected to produce your favourite chips. Our spuds are cut, blanched and frozen within just a few hours after harvesting, in order to lock in nutrition. Potatoes are packed with vitamin B5, B6 and vitamin C, which aids metabolism. McCain has been working with South African farmers to ensure that you have the perfect potatoes to fry, roast or bake in the oven.

No matter what chips tickle your taste buds, McCain has a potato chip for you:

  • McCain Skinny French Fries – crispy and thin cut, the perfect side to any burger
  • McCain Spykos Fries – your good old-fashioned fry chip, perfect with a tasty rack of ribs
  • McCain Traditional Slap Chips – with fish or russians, nothing comes close to the slap chip
  • McCain Oven Chips – crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, perfect next to your steak and egg
  • McCain Big Bites – nothing says a delicious meal like wedges and grilled chicken
  • McCain Spicy Big Bites – add a little spice to your pita or fajita with these delicious spicy wedges
