Chefs who share – the ART of giving is happening again

The grand charity event that last year raised R1.2-million for youth development is back on 11 September

– and promises to deliver not only even more culinary artistry than last year, but also a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with some heroes of the food scene locally and from around the world.

Created by Opulent Living Experiences and presented by Mercedes-Benz, this black-tie evening gala will once again draw together 14 award-winning South African chefs, as well as seven top sommeliers, to create a food-and-wine pairing experience par excellence.

This year, with a generous sponsorship from Swiss International Airlines, seven acclaimed international chefs will also join the extravaganza; flying in from Europe to add an extra serving of continental flair to the star-studded proceedings. Joining the team also for the first time is Deutsche Bank, coming on board as an additional sponsor and assisting in making this grand affair come to life.

The chefs and much-awarded sommeliers will form seven teams of four, each team creating an exclusive menu of gourmet food and wine delights for just 36 guests per team. For those who appreciate the finer things in life, it’s an event not to be missed – presenting acclaimed European master chefs, Gerd Kastenmenier, Alfred Miller, Bernards Reiser, Andreas Meyer, Anton Schmaus, Christian Greiner and an added wild card for the evening.

“Mercedes-Benz South Africa is delighted to once again be involved with this wonderful event. It gives us the opportunity to, amongst others, support the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, an existing CSR beneficiary of MBSA. It also provides Cape Town’s culinary enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy one of the latest models from our fascinating passenger car range, to whet their appetite!” says Claudia Walters, Marketing Communications Manager Mercedes-Benz Cars South Africa.

“It’s a fabulous opportunity not just to experience exceptional food and wine, but also to give back,” says Opulent Living’s Barbara Lenhard, who came up with this innovative idea for the event.

Hosted amid the Edwardian elegance of Cape Town’s City Hall, all proceeds from ticket sales and the accompanying auction will once again go 100 percent to two established youth development charities: MAD Charity – Make a Difference, and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

A brainchild, which derived from last year’s event, is the Veggie Box initiative. This initiative gives everyone the opportunity to give towards the support of children in and around Cape Town’s challenged and vulnerable communities with fresh produce for healthier meals. Supporting the local community is the aim of the Veggie Box project in conjunction with ‘Chefs who share – the ART of giving’.
