De Grendel Wine and Restaurant

Great wines, magnificent vines, exquisite view. One of Cape Town’s oldest farms, De Grendel has an impressive centuries-old history within the Graaff family and is perfectly situated on high, sea-facing slopes overlooking the greater Cape Town. De Grendel is the only vineyard in the country that is 350m above sea level and only seven kilometres from the sea. This uniquely elevated position forms an integral part of the micro-climate that shapes the elegant wines crafted by cellar master Charles Hopkins, combining the most modern winemaking techniques with a nod to the farm’s heritage, eco-caring ethos and commitment to quality.

The Durbanville Wine Valley is renowned as an excellent Sauvignon Blanc area with De Grendel producing one of the best. De Grendel Sauvignon Blanc 2018 entices with granadilla and grapefruit aromas with nuances of granny smith apple that evolve into a crisp, zesty entry on to the palate, balanced by a full, round, rich mouthfeel exuding tantalising flavours of lemon and lime, with a lingering finish.
