Creation – A garden for all seasons

At Creation on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge winter has settled in early this year. Cold nights and crisp mornings develop into beautiful summer-like afternoons ideal for a distinctive wine experience at our tasting room, enjoying our magnificent view.

Our Fynbos Garden is in full bloom with red hot pokers shooting to the sky. This indigenous plant is also known as ‘tritoma’ or ‘torch lily’ and its scientific name is Kniphofia uvaria. In Afrikaans it is widely known as ‘vuurpyle’. There are many varieties of torch lily and they bloom at different times during the growing season. The flowers are red, orange and yellow and they make a striking contribution to the fynbos biome.

The garden at Creation has over 50 indigenous species planted for an all-year display of colour and fusion; making it a ‘garden for all seasons’. Visitors will never be disappointed by the colourful display of indigenous fynbos in the garden. Apart from the beautiful red hot pokers, be on the lookout for the stunning Protea cynaroides Madiba currently in full bloom.

The long dry summers and cold wet winters of the Cape have resulted in fynbos being a particularly hardy form of flora, evidenced by the thick, waxy wind-resistant leaves of the protea family. Other members of the Cape Floral Kingdom such as ericas have very fine leaves, making them ideal to survive in the windy conditions of the Cape.

The garden at Creation is not only a natural asset, but also a place to treasure all year round, rewarding with a beautiful and unique picture every season.
