In this popular series we feature selected sommeliers from top restaurants around the world. Each chooses his or her favourite Creation wine, tells us why and recommends a matching dish. This week we welcome Eric Botha of the well-known and atmospheric Big Easy Winebar & Grill in Durban.

Eric says:

My choice of wine is the Creation Syrah, Grenache blend. I personally prefer the choice of word – ‘Syrah’ instead of ‘Shiraz’ – and the wine shows typical Old World characteristics, for instance more white pepper than black pepper. The wine also reflects typical cool climate characteristics, especially the Grenache which shows no chewy notes. This wine has a long peacock tail finish that lingers with the follow up from the nose.
