Creation is proud to be associated with ‘We Build’, a community project to construct fire proof dwellings in the notoriously fire prone townships. This admirable project is the brainchild of Anthea van der Pluym who, through suffering severe burns of her own, was moved to embark on a journey towards safer, more secure homes for those who currently reside in informal dwellings.

The pilot house under construction at 34 Kholekala Street in Zwelihle is a critical step towards making the initiative a sustainable, viable option as the results of this first building will determine the feasibility of the project. Additionally it will stimulate interest from the stakeholders and those who stand to benefit from the skills and technology involved in the construction of these eco-homes.

The first day of construction was Saturday 23rd May with the concrete foundation slab laid during the previous week. A festive atmosphere prevailed as various local businesses and individuals contributed food, refreshments and even live music to the team of over 60 volunteers. By the end of day 1 the house was approaching the half-way point, with most of the building work completed on day 2, Sunday 24th May.
