Creation wins the Great Wine Capitals Best of Wine Tourism Award for Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences

When Great Wine Capitals (GWC) recently announced the South African winners of its Best of Wine Tourism Awards for 2017, Creation Wines was once again honoured with the ‘Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences’ award.

This marks the third time in five years that Creation has received this accolade and co-owner and marketing director Carolyn Martin says the Creation team is thrilled. “We constantly strive to surprise and delight our visitors with novel ideas and brand-new treats and the fact that these efforts are being recognised by a reputable international body such as GWC means the world to us!”

GWC is a network of nine major global cities in both the northern and southern hemispheres which share a key economic and cultural asset: their internationally renowned wine regions. The annual Best of Wine Tourism Awards is an international competition designed to reward the wineries in member cities and wine regions that have distinguished themselves in terms of delivering quality experiences to the public.

Established by Jean-Claude and Carolyn Martin in 2002, Creation is situated in the cool-climate Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge Ward near Hermanus. “The name of the estate”, Carolyn explains, “is not only a tribute to the riches Mother Nature has bestowed upon our farm, it is also a reference to our soils which had never been planted to vines before, and last but not least, it is a promise of constant renewal.’’ While this trendsetting spirit is best reflected by the launch of a number of exciting ‘firsts’ within Creation’s wine portfolio, it is also demonstrated by the thrilling innovations among its wine tourism offerings.

The estate has played a pioneering role in the field of Wine and Food Pairing, presently offering no less than eight pairing options. More innovations come from the Creation Culinary Team who takes pleasure in creating new recipes or blending a little nostalgia with a hearty helping of innovation to reconstruct old favourites. The inventive Creation team furthermore introduced an exciting blog series on Wine and Herb Pairing which was recently followed by their popular ‘Wine and Flower Pairing: A Beautiful Affair’ series. Another first from Creation is the ‘Sommelier’s Choice’ series featuring selected sommeliers from top restaurants around the world.

Creation is also widely commended for its trendsetting use of social media to interact with its clients. “We have embraced new media in all its forms as it provides innovative ways of keeping our clients up to date with our activities. Even more importantly, it is the ideal way for soliciting feedback and client interaction. We can only meet the needs of our clients if we know what is important to them and in fact, many of our latest innovations have come from listening carefully to our clients,” says Carolyn.

According to Carolyn having the vision to constantly re-invent themselves is however only part of the secret. “It is thanks to a dedicated and enthusiastic team willing and able to implement these innovations that we succeed.”
