What a fantastic start to the new year! De Grendel has been classified in South Africa’s Top 100 Most Highly Rated Wines 2019 in the Shiraz category and we are tremendously proud to have received this award, especially right at the beginning of 2019.

The De Grendel Shiraz has been a consistent winner of awards through the years and is an exceptionally versatile wine. Carefully sourced from specially selected vineyards in the Firgrove and Paarl areas, the grapes were vinified separately using two different methods, allowing the unique characteristics of each vineyard to shine through.

Bright purple in colour with a deep violet rim, the nose offers upfront aromas of perfume, violets, glazed gammon, pepper and buchu. The wine presents a smooth entry on the palate, with soft and seamless layers of cloves, nutmeg and warm spices, underpinned by a savoury and meaty finish.

The De Grendel Shiraz will marry exceptionally well with pork neck steaks served with a cranberry reduction, a traditional glazed gammon during the festive season and, in particular, with game and venison cuts during the colder winter months.
