De Grendel is Big in Japan!

The Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards, now in it’s fourth year, is one of the biggest international wine competitions, hosted by women, in Japan. Receiving over 4,200 entries from 37 countries in 2017, the competition has seen tremendous growth compared to 2016’s 3,543 entries.

Wines were tasted blind and judged by 408 judges. A total number of 1,872 awards was awarded in the 2017 awards, including 899 gold and 736 silver awards.

De Grendel took home three awards, including Gold for De Grendel Op Die Berg Pinot Noir 2013. At an altitude of 960 meters above sea level, the grapes for the De Grendel Op Die Berg Pinot Noir come from high in the Witzenberg Mountain range in Ceres. The climate in this area results in a gradual ripening process which delivers a concentrated, luscious, elegant, terroir-driven wine.
