Keen to try something different? Then a visit to De Krans Wines in Calitzdorp should be on your bucketlist. The Klein Karoo based wine farm has introduced a wine tasting experience with a difference, with the launch of its Biscotti and Wine tasting experience.
The concept for this unusual wine tasting originated with wine lover and gourmand Denise Lindley, after tasting the De Krans Moscato over lunch a while back at the winery’s Bistro. The food, wine and the charm of the bistro reminded Denise of one of her favourite restaurants in Burano, a small island off Venice in Italy, where they serve Vin Santo and Biscotti as dessert.
Denise shared her idea the owner of De Krans, Boets Nel and culinary guru Francois Ferreira, who took the idea one step further by creating biscotti to complement a selection of wines in the De Krans range.

The De Krans Bistro chef, Retief van der Walt and his team tested various biscotti recipes, paired them with the wines and settled on the following:
- De Krans Pinotage Rose with Mixed Herb Biscotti
- De Krans Moscato with Classic Biscotti
- De Krans Touriga Nacional with Biltong Biscotti
- De Krans Espresso with Coffee, Vanilla and Cashew Biscotti
- De Krans Cape Vintage with Allspice Choc Chip Biscotti
Visitors to De Krans can now enjoy the Biscotti and Wine tasting at the tasting room at a cost of R50 per person. Tutored tasting are also available on request and reservations are essential.
