Demand from wine collectors and discerning customers has led to De Wetshof Estate introducing a Wine Library from where rare older vintages of this acclaimed Robertson farm’s wines are available for purchase. One of South Africa’s leading Chardonnay producers, De Wetshof makes a range of site-specific wines, each bearing the unique fingerprint of individuals pocket of terroir found on the estate. 

Through the De Wetshof Wine Library wine-lovers can now access Chardonnay and other wines that have been personally identified by Johann de Wet, CEO of De Wetshof, as having reached optimum levels of maturation and have been kept under ideal storage conditions at 14°C. All the vintages on offer have been tasted by Johann and the De Wetshof team to ensure premium quality.

“Most of the wines available through the Wine Library are from our ranges of Chardonnays,” says De Wet. “De Wetshof has always been proponents of the magical qualities found in Chardonnay wines with a few years’ age under their belt. The idea behind the Wine Library was driven by our wish to share mature wines with the public, as well as through the numerous requests we get for older wines.”

The wines in the Wine Library that are now available for purchase include the estate’s prized Bateleur Chardonnay from the highly-touted 2015 and 2016 vintages. The offering of De Wetshof Finesse, the elegant and lightly wooded Chardonnay, incorporates the stunning the vintages of 2009, 2013 and 2015 among wines from other great  years. 

Bon Vallon, De Wetshof’s unwooded and structured Chardonnay, which was the first unoaked Chardonnay in South Africa, is known as a wine that reaches spectacular heights after a few years in the bottle. The Wine Library offers are Bon Vallon vintages such as the 2008 and 2009, as well as the wine from 2015 and 2016.

The Wine Library offering also includes two fabulous Pinot Noir wines from the 2009 and 2010 vintage.

“There is definitely a growing demand for older wines, from connoisseurs and the general public alike,” says De Wet. “As people develop an interest in wine, so too do they become curious to discover aged wines. With the Wine Library we can now offer access to the added complexity and depth of older wines to people who invest in their own collections.”
