Dinner in the cellar at Vergenoegd Wine Estate

Have you ever wondered what happens in the cellar during harvest? Well here’s your opportunity as John Faure invites you to see behind the scenes of our old world cellar at night.

John and Mike Israel of Pomegranate restaurant have collaborated to present you with this unique opportunity to enjoy good food and wine whilst experiencing the romance of the cellar at night.  John will welcome you with a glass of “moss” (fermenting grape juice) and invite you to some grape stomping before dinner. Dinner will be enjoyed as the sun sets and we discuss the days activities and harvest. Finally the evening will end with the chance to participate in the final mixing and pump over of the fermenting grapes in the old open “kuipe”.

The dinners will take place on Thursdays during March 2011.  Each evening can only accommodate 16 guests, which gives those attending the chance to interact with John and his team on a personal level.  As a wine maker of note, this is an ideal opportunity to get to know this unassuming man, whose family has farmed the Vergenoegd vines for six generations.

The cost of the evening is R230 per head and includes a three course dinner paired with Vergenoegd wines.  To ensure your participation in one of these memorable evenings, call Vergenoegd Wine Estate on 021 843 3248 or email [email protected]  Menu is available on request.
