Double Platinum Winner and Best Port in SA at Top 100 SA Wines for Boplaas

The indomitable Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 2013 managed to be included in the Top 100 SA Wines awards 2016, along with joint first place for wine consistency between 2011 – 2016, which is a top result for this family run winery of the Klein Karoo in Calitzdorp.

The sixth iteration of the Top 100 SA Wines with tasting panel – including Master if Wine, world renowned independent judges and expert winemakers – attracted more than 500 entries.

The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 2013 won a double platinum medal, was included in the Top 100 SA Wines and also the best Port in SA with the grand cru first place winner. Along with this the Boplaas Ouma Cloete Straw Wine 2015 won a double gold medal. Both the Boplaas Gamka Family Reserve 2013 and the Boplaas Ring of Rocks Family Reserve 2013 received double silver medals.

Boplaas is synonymous with the crafting of benchmark, authentic and age worthy Cape Port-styled fortifieds and red table wines from the Portuguese varieties. This includes Tinta Barocca, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa and Souzao. Margaux Nel, winemaker of Boplaas, did her MSc in viticulture on the Portuguese varieties as table wines.

The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 2013 and the Gamka 2013 is available at R175 p/b. The Boplaas Ouma Cloete Straw Wine 2015 (500ml) at R110 p/b and the Boplaas Ring of Rocks 2013 is available at R90 p/b. All of these wines are available from the Boplaas tasting rooms in Calitzdorp and on Garden Route near Little Brak River.
