Drinking Wine for a Good Cause: Creation African Penguin Reserve Wine

Every year there are countless wine launches, but very few are giving back to the community. In these days of budgetary cutbacks, it’s nice to see something done to help promote and protect our wild life.

Creation Wines developed the African Penguin Reserve wine with a percentage of sales going to the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary (APSS).

The sanctuary, a project of the Dyer Island Conservation Trust, has in its first year successfully saved more than 90% of the 114 endangered African penguins and various other seabirds.

However, this new development has come with increased costs to the trust and fundraising efforts have been stepped up to ensure smooth operations at the APSS.

The wine project is the brainchild of Carolyn and JC Martin of Creation Wines, who first approached the Foundation with the idea of creating a wine as a charitable vehicle for raising funds for the sanctuary.

With an estimated 18 000 breeding pairs of African penguin left, a drop of more than 60% in numbers from 30 years ago, we make a plea to all to support our penguins in peril and purchase a case, because a portion of every bottle sold goes to the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary.

The African Penguin Reserve Pinor Noir Rosé 2016 is approachable, ready to drink and affordable. It’s available only from the Creation tasting room, with label art paying homage to the African Penguin with iconic images. The price per bottle is R85.
