Drive down Route 62 the world’s longest wine route

When Nat King Cole sang about Route 66 he not only romanticised the idea of automobile travel but also put the ‘main street of America’ on the world map.

It’s a pity that no one has sung an ode to South Africa’s Route 62, though it meanders between Cape Town and Oudtshoorn, the Langkloof and Port Elizabeth with awe-inspiring views at each twist and turn.

Drive down a section of this 850-kilometre Wine Route and you will be rewarded with a scenery that is packaged with magnificent landscapes, towering cliffs, crystal clear streams, ever-changing colours of majestic mountains, rivers, vineyards and orchards.

Route 62 is the longest wine route in the world. It leads you through the wine-growing areas of Wellington, Tulbagh, Worcester, Robertson and the Klein Karoo.
