Dutch duo and festival winner for Nederburg

One of the world’s foremost panflute-and-guitar duos, Verso, will perform at the Nederburg Concert on July 3.

Panflute player Matthijs Koene and guitarist Stefan Gerritsen founded Verso in 1997 and took their name from the title of the work Verso, written for them by the American-Dutch composer Ron Ford.

Verso is renowned for their passionate performance of classical music, as well as an ever-expanding contemporary repertoire. Indeed, one of the duo’s most important goals is the creation of distinguished repertoire for panflute and guitar.

To date more than 40 works have been written for this special combination. The outstanding expression of the instruments is put to use in a very broad range of styles, from Dowland, Giuliani and Piazzolla, to the newest music by Theo Loevendie, Artyum Kim, Daan Manneke, Gerard Beljon, and Louis Aguirre among others.
