Ed Sheeran and Lionel Richie rack up a huge wine bill at Cardiff restaurant

Singers Ed Sheeran and Lionel Richie racked up a massive wine bill at a restaurant in Cardiff over the weekend. A £750 bottle of Penfolds Grange 1997 was just one of the wines they consumed during the evening, according to The Drinks Business.

Sheeran, who had been performing at the Principality Stadium on Saturday night as part of his Divide world tour, relaxed afterwards with Richie at the Park House Restaurant and Wine Bar in the Welsh capital city.

He had apparently done his homework beforehand, according to the restaurant’s spokesperson, Sian Gunney.

Speaking to The Sun, Gunney said: “Ed obviously knows his wine.

“His PA rang and made the booking and Ed actually spoke to the staff himself.

“He must have looked at the wine menu before he came because he knew exactly what he wanted. He went straight to the wine bar”.

According to Gunney, the pair were clearly fans of Aussie wine, sharing a bottle of Penfolds Grange 1997 as well as Eight Uncles Shiraz 2015 from Barossa producer Fox Gordon and The Menzies Cabernet Sauvignon (£16) from Yalumba in the Coonawarra.

While Richie reportedly tucked into a Brecon lamb dish prepared by chef Andrew Frost, Sheeran opted for a liquid dinner, not eating for the entire duration of their stay which allegedly lasted until 3am.

Park House boasts a 206-page wine list including a wide selection by the glass (using Enomatic and Verre de Vin) and Coravin (fine wines.)
