Dairy producers are invited to enter the 2019 South African Dairy Championships, the biggest, oldest and most prestigious dairy event in the country.

Dairy producers are invited to enter the 2019 South African Dairy Championships, the biggest, oldest and most prestigious dairy event in the country.

The championships has been hosted since 1834 by Cape of Good Hope Agricultural Society, today Agri-Expo. According to Johan Ehlers, Chief Executive Officer of Agri-Expo, the ultimate aim of the championships is to promote excellence in the dairy industry.

“The SA Dairy Championships is the only championships that involves all dairy products in South Africa and has become the benchmark for producers to measure themselves against each other. The Qualité mark is recognised by the industry as the only mark of quality for dairy products in South Africa”, Ehlers says.

In 2018 a total of 945 products were entered by 83 dairy producers, of which 15 were first-time entrants. The championships consists of more than 100 classes for cheese, yogurt, milk, cream, ice cream, butter and other dairy products. Agri-Expo is in continuous conversation with the industry to adapt regulations in collaboration with role-players.

Entries for the 2019 championships opens on 7 January 2019 on the website www.cheesesa.co.za. The closing date for entries is 7 February 2019. Judging takes place on 28 February 2019. The SA Dairy Championships is made possible by the partners Lake Foods (diamond) and Santam (silver). The Qualité Awards Dinner will be held on 29 March 2019 at Grand West in Cape Town.
