Entries now open for the inaugural Standard Bank Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge

The Chenin Blanc Association of South Africa is excited to announce the signing of a three year sponsorship agreement with Standard Bank in support of a Top 10 Chenin Blanc Competition.

The Standard Bank/Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge will be open to all South African Chenin Blanc producers.

The judging panel consists of Christian Eedes, one of South Africa’s most respected wine judges as chairperson, as well as a team of expert judges dedicated to selecting the top Chenin Blancs in the country during blind tastings that will take place on 17 and 18 July in Stellenbosch. For the 2014 Standard Bank/Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge the judges are:

Jamie Goode from the United Kingdom, a London-based wine writer currently wine columnist with UK national newspaper The Sunday Express. He won the 2007 Glenfiddich Wine Writer of the Year award, and contributes regularly to a range of publications including The World of Fine Wine, Wine Business International, Wines and Vines, Sommelier Journal, The Drinks Business and Imbibe.

Alan Mullins, Cape Wine Master. Apart from running the Woolworths (SA) Wine Department for the past 23 years he has been involved in every aspect of wine in South Africa. He is highly respected as a judge, a writer, a tasting presenter and a wine lecturer.

Carrie Adams, partner at Norman Goodfellows Fine Wine & Spirit Merchants, respected wine judge and broadcaster.

Higgo Jacobs, certified with the Court of Master Sommeliers. Higgo consults to various establishments; judges on wine competitions and for publications locally and abroad.

Associate Judge Gregory Mutambe, sommelier from the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa.

Winners will receive R20 000 each and the money must be used to reinforce the economic and social benefits in the workplace to the workforce. The awards ceremony announcing the winners will take place on Wednesday 27 August at Delaire Graff Estate in Stellenbosch.
