Entries open for the 2013 La Capra Goat Run

The countdown to our 4th annual La Capra Goat Run has finally begun. The official date has been set for the 5th of October 2013 and entries opened on the 27th of May 2013. The La Capra Goat Run is presented by Fairview, sponsored by Assics and managed by the event organising team Pieter & Ellane Van Wyk, along with our very own Farm Manager, Donald Mouton. The goal of the event is for the entire family to enjoy a fun day out between the mountains and trees and most importantly – giving-back to those in our community who are in need.

On that note, we are delighted to announce that the charity chosen to receive the funds raised at this year’s La Capra Goat Run is the Drakenstein Palliative Hospice House. At the Drakenstein Hospice they believe in caring for the community, by working with community members, empowering them to not only help themselves, but help those around them by encouraging them to embrace life and to live a hopeful future.

Traditionally Hospices cares for patients with an expectation of ‘dying’. Due to the changing nature of life-threatening illnesses, the poor socio economic climate and limited resources available, they care for not only the infected patients but also their children and the affected community who are confronted with an expectation of ‘living’ with a life-threatening illness. Currently they care for over 600 patients including adults, vulnerable children and orphans within the Drakenstein area. They plan on using the much needed funds for the Home-Based-Care Programme, which functions within the Drakenstein farming communities, specifically as a support for  general operational costs.

There are so many organisations, much like the Drakenstein Hospice House, in our community that need our help and attention. We try to contribute however we can to various organisations in the community, and this year we felt that because of the amazing and inspiring work they continue to do at the Drakenstein Hospice House, despite their financial setbacks, we will donate all the funds raised at the La Capra Goat Run 2013 to them. We hope that our contribution will go along way and assist them in maintaining the services necessary in order to operate as effectively as possible,” says Farm Manager Donald Mouton.

Overall we raised more than R40 000 for our charities last year and hope to better that figure this year by increasing the number of entries, donations and event sponsors. We received a lot of constructive feedback after last years’ La Capra Goat Run, and we are happy to confirm that we have implemented a number of them which resulted in a brand new trail that will prove to be enjoyable for the entire family – young and old.

If you would like to get involved this year, by participating in the La Capra Goat Run, making a donation or sponsoring prizes please contact Fairview Farm Manager, Donald Mouton by emailing him on [email protected]
