Exhilarating Display Of Michelangelo Awards – Robertson Wine Valley 2018 results inspire and impress!

Both the venerable and the recent arrivals, the large estates and the boutique producers have all taken pride of place in the 2018 annual Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards. Another welcome characteristic is the diversity of the winning wines – the valley is producing an intoxicating array of cultivars and blends along with those for which the valley has long been renowned.

The Michelangelo Awards have developed into the largest wine and spirits competition on the African continent, and their judges were sourced from across five continents and 17 countries.

While space restrictions make it impractical to cover every award given to every producer, there are many cellars that brought home an impressive number of medals while only one scored the highest acclaim, the Michelangelo Trophy which was awarded to Bon Courage Estate for their captivating Cap Classique Jacques Bruère Cuvee Rosé. This, along with a double gold, four golds and silver made a fine total for this popular venue.

The solitary prestigious Platinum award went to Rooiberg Winery for their Shiraz Reserve, while seven Double Golds rewarded wines from Bon Courage Estate (White Muscadel), De Wetshof Estate (Riesling) Kleinhoekkloof (Merlot) Langverwacht (Chenin Blanc), Lord’s Wines (MCC Brut) and Robertson Winery (Chardonnay and Shiraz).

A total of nearly 40 wines were awarded Gold, with some producers, like Bon Courage, Bonnievale Wines, McGregor Wines, Rietvallei estate and Weltevrede estate each bringing home a fistful. A sprinkling of 15 Silver completed the medal haul in this very successful round of results from the cellars of the Robertson Wine Valley.
