Flagstone Adds New Varietals to Poetry Vintage Collection

Flagstone introduces Pinotage and Chenin Blanc varietals to the 2019 vintage of the Poetry Range.

These two new proudly South African varietals are a testament to South Africa’s 350-year-old winemaking heritage that have award winning expression in Flagstone’s Icon and Core Ranges.

Flagstone’s Head Winemaker, Gerhard Swart, holds an enduring belief that Chenin Blanc and Pinotage are remarkable varietals capable of producing exquisite South African wines. This conviction is realised in the Flagstone’s craftsmanship of these signature varietals at every price-point. Poetry is a lifestyle range of wine – food friendly, thought provoking wines that are delectably quaffable and great value for money.

Gerhard Swart’s obsession with Pinotage is admired by the wine industry with Gold Medals and 5-star ratings for Time Manner Place and Writers Block, the latter a persistent feature in the ABSA Top 10 Pinotage Awards. While Flagstone’s 2018 Tributary Bush Vine Chenin Blanc is recognised as a 2019 Standard Bank Chenin Blanc Top 10 Challenge wine. This prowess finds favour in the Poetry Range where the 2019 vintages benefit from the accomplishments of the antecedent wines.

The Poetry range of wines is about the essence of the grape – openly honest and precise and is meant to convey the pared-down aspect in the same way as short poetic verses capture ideas.

Accomplished poetry is a distillation of language so that meaning shines through. Powerful poetry is utter, it pulls no punches and is not concerned with excuses. It celebrates the joy and highlights the natural sadness of our human condition, poetry eulogises the cycle of nature.

Poetry is romantic, poignant and it shows the compulsion of our heart, the engine of our ambition and the spirit of desire. It is the intimate connection of wine and creative composition and it is meant to stir us, at least briefly, to quiet moments of reflection.
