Fleur du Cap has been ranked amongst the world’s finest Chardonnays as one of only two South African wines to receive a gold medal at the 2015 Chardonnay du Monde competition in Burgundy, France.

Chardonnay du Monde is an annual international wine competition dedicated to showcasing the diversity and richness of this noble variety by honouring the world’s best renditions. In total 826 Chardonnays from 41 countries participated this year, with Fleur du Cap brining home gold and silverware.

Fleur du Cap’s gold medal went to the Unfiltered Chardonnay 2014 while the Bergkelder Selection Chardonnay 2013 clinched silver.

The Unfiltered Chardonnay spent nine months in oak barrels and is packed with aromas of peaches, blossom and dried fruit following through onto the palate with complex, beautifully integrated fruit and vanilla oak flavours.

The Bergkelder Selection Chardonnay with four months’ oak contact, is more accessible with lovely citrus notes and a touch of tropical fruit.

Both wines were crafted at Die Bergkelder by Pieter Badenhorst who heads up the white winemaking team supported by cellarmaster Andrea Freeborough and viticulturist Bennie Liebenberg.

Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Chardonnay 2014 and Bergkelder Selection Chardonnay 2013 are available at leading wine outlets country-wide or the Fleur du Cap cellar door at Die Bergkelder in Stellenbosch for R100 or R55 per bottle respectively.
