Fleur du Cap strikes international Gold at Concours Mondial 2015

An ultra-elegant Cabernet Sauvignon from Fleur du Cap’s esteemed Unfiltered range, has earned the winemaking team at Die Bergkelder a Gold medal at the 2015 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

A wine of great finesse and complexity, the award winning Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, stood out amongst over 8 000 wines from 45 producer countries at this year’s event which took place in Jesolo, Italy.

Crafted from vineyards grown in decomposed granite soils on the slopes of the Bottelary Hills in the Stellenbosch winelands, the wine expresses intense aromas of fruit cake, blueberry and violets with hints of cassis. Subtle lead pencil nuances attest to the sophisticated use of oak.

”The selected vineyards produced remarkable fruit resulting in complex flavours of blackcurrant and mocha on the palate with well-integrated oaking lending firm tannins that will ensure enduring longevity,” says winemaker Wim Truter, who enjoys this wine with robust dishes, especially strong flavoured cheeses.

“This wine is a fine example of what we are trying to achieve with our philosophy of regional excellence, finding the best vineyard sites a region has to offer to craft wines that reflect true varietal character with a sense of place,” Wim adds.

The Fleur du Cap winemaking team at Die Bergkelder, headed by cellarmaster Andrea Freeborough and supported by viticulturist Bennie Liebenberg, search the length and breadth of the Western Cape to find the best grapes to craft their wines.

Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 is available at discerning boutique wine shops and fine dining establishments. It sells for R135 at the cellar door at Die Bergkelder in Stellenbosch, or buy it online at www.vinoteque.co.za.
