Free-range Mouse Found In Woolworths Steak And Kidney Pie

A Cape Town women, Carmelita Pienaar, said she found a mouse in her Woolies steak and kidney pie.

According to Pienaar she knew something was off when she took her first bite. “I didn’t take the pie out of the packet, but I knew something was wrong because it didn’t feel or taste right. And when I broke the pie open I saw the mouse,” she said.

Now in Southeast Asia mouse meat is not that uncommon. You will find these bony biltong like bites on restaurant menus every now and then, normally available in two preparations, quay or top. Unlike Woolworths mice pies, it is presented without the skin and fried in a garlicky five-spice sauce.

What to drink with Mice Pie?

A natural pairing to accommodate your next Woolies mouse pie is a lovely bottle of baby mouse wine. Baby mice wine is a traditional Chinese and Korean “health tonic,” which apparently tastes like raw gasoline.
