Good Taste challenges Platter

The ongoing battle between blind versus sighted wine assessment is a big turn-off for most wine lovers – everyone has her own opinion and the arguments have become tedious – yet the issue remains a matter of life and death for producers and retailers, as a powerful attack on Platter’s tasting methodology from Colin Collard, owner of  Wine of the Month Club, in the May edition of his Good Taste magazine, confirms. Colin takes up cudgels against sighted assessments by a single taster after a club member wrote in to complain that none of the wines in his Reserve Club pack rate higher than 3½ stars in Platter, conflating Platter stars with quality.
