Great-grandfather, 92, stopped from buying vodka because he didn`t have ID

Some might say war veteran Tony Ball looks younger than his years. But under 18? That’s pushing it.

The 92-year-old was stopped from buying alcohol at his local branch of Tesco because didn’t have any ID.

The great-grandfather tried to pay for two bottles of vodka but was stunned when a check-out girl asked him to prove he was over 18.

Initially thinking it was a joke, Tony said: ‘I laughed, but she then said, “We’re not allowed to serve you if you’re underage”.

‘By the look on her face she wasn’t joking. I said, “Do you mean it?” and she said, “Yes”. So I said, “You can tell Tesco what to do with their stuff”, and walked out.’
