Harvest 2014 at Backsberg

Harvest 2014 has kicked off at Backsberg and yesterday we picked our first Chardonnay that will be used for the MCC Sparkling Brut.

The vineyard is situated on our Greendale farm down the road from Backsberg. All the Chardonnay grapes were whole-bunch pressed.

The juice is looking good with near perfect analysis of 19.7 Balling, pH 3.1 and TA of 9.9. Perfect for a crisp and zesty MCC Sparkling Brut with great structure. Picking started before 5am and was finished by 8:30am so as to avoid the high midday temperatures.
