Platter’s Wine Guide on Haskell Vineyards

No small task, it must be said. A team of tasters work their way through literally thousands of wines, sorting the wheat from the chaff and finalising an ordered heirarchy of quality for South African wine.

We’re delighted that each and every Haskell wine has this year received 4 1/2 Stars.

Quality and consistency have been two elements that we see as hallmarks of the brand, and these ratings reinforce that we are delivering on that goal. It is a portfolio of wines that we’re rightly proud of.

Of course, they are available for tasting at the Haskell Vineyards cellar door, seven days a week.

Haskell Anvil
2012
Aromas of white peach and citrus, with floral, flint and hazelnut influences. Palate is framed by youthful acidity, with harmonious fruit and oak balance. Finishes with subtle toasted almond and baked bread after flavours.

Haskell Aeon
2011
Rich dense garnet colour with lighter purple edges. The nose has lifted    elements of red cherries, cinnamon, black pepper and sexy violets to round off. The pallet has a firm tannin structure with good dimension of fruit and wood balance.

Haskell Pillars
2011
Rich purple red colour with vibrant pink edges. The nose is very aromatic with flavour of white pepper, rose petals, violets and ripe red cherries. The pallet has a soft entry with powdery tannins and a subtle creamy texture. Lingering aftertaste with great length, elegance and balance of the same flavours you find on the nose.
Haskell II
2010
Black red colour with purple rim. The nose shows flavours of black cherries, black pepper, chocolate powder and hints of liquorice. The palate has a soft entrance and is full bodied with lovely ripe fruit tannins in perfect harmony with oak nuances.
Haskell IV
2009
Intense vibrant red colour with nose showing layered flavour of tobacco spice, rich cherries, dark chocolate and savouriness. The pallet has a soft attack with firm tannins and a subtle creamy texture. Lingering aftertaste, with the same flavours as on the nose.
