How Much Caffeine Is Really In Your Favorite Cup of Coffee?

For many of us, that (first) cup of coffee in the morning is solely responsible for taking us from anti-social zombie to semi-functioning human. (If that’s not the only thing you depend on coffee for, see if you’re possibly addicted.) But while some of us are very particular on our coffee order, others are good with just a cup of black coffee from whatever place has the shortest line. After all, a cup of coffee is a cup of coffee, right? Turns out, the amount of caffeine in a cup of average joe between four popular coffee spots is actually very different.

Researchers from Labdoor looked at the caffeine content in a medium cup of brewed coffee from Starbucks, 7-Eleven, McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts from stores in both New York and San Francisco. According to a Buzzfeed article, the researchers found that 7-Eleven had the highest average amount of caffeine per cup, at 280 milligrams of caffeine per cup.

That’s right, 7-Eleven took home the caffeinated crown. Who else is doing some mental math on how much money they could have saved the past year by skipping Starbucks in lieu of a convenience store? Ugh. (Turns out, convenience stores aren’t as unhealthy as you think, too. This guy proved it.)
