How To Detox Your Liver After A Big Night Out

It is all too easy to overindulge when you hit the club or pub with your drinking buddies. You may feel that the time is right for a post-party detox to rid your system of all the excess.

Because we care about your health and well being, we’ve compiled a list of 3 very effective drinks to help detox your liver and flush out the excess fat that’s been storing toxins for too long.

Beetroot and lemon juice

Beet and lemon juices are known in the natural healing world as good agents to help the liver with detoxification. Beet’s fiber or pectin is effective for the absorption of heavy metals and other toxins which are filtered by the liver and passed into the bowels. Because of its high acidity, lemon juice is effective in breaking down foods in the digestive system, especially fats.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sized beetroot
  • half a lemon, seeds removed
  • a handful of mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Rinse beetroot thoroughly and cut into pieces
  2. Juice beetroot, throwing in the mint leaves intermittently
  3. Squeeze lemon into juice
  4. Serve chilled or iced, topped with a sprig of mint.

Lemon, ginger and turmeric tea

Making your own lemon-ginger-turmeric tea will naturally cleanse and detoxify your liver. Use the following recipe to make this healthy tea. If possible, try to find fresh turmeric root.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups of filtered drinking water
  • ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon of freshly grated ginger root
  • ½ a lemon (juiced with peel)
  • 2 to 3 twists of fresh black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey or to desired taste

Instructions

  1. Combine the turmeric, ginger, and the filtered water in a saucepan.
  2. Turn the heat to medium-high and simmer for about 5 to 10 minutes. Do not let the mixture come to a boil.
  3. Strain the hot liquid and pour into a cup or mug. Stir in the lemon juice and honey.
  4. Your tea is now ready to drink.

Apple, lemon juice with a little bit of cinnamon

The antiseptic and detoxifying power of lemon combined with the purifying properties of cinnamon and apple come together to make this hydrating and hepatoprotectant drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Lemon juice
  • 1 liter of water

Instructions

  1. Cut up the apples and remove their seeds.
  2. Place the apple pieces in the blender and then pour in the water and lemon juice.
  3. Blend all the ingredients together.
  4. Pour the juice in a jug and then add the cinnamon stick,
  5. Drink it throughout the day, for at least two weeks.

Pro-tip

Once you have completed your detox (and no doubt feel great!) don’t use it as an excuse to immediately open a bottle of champagne and celebrate. There is nothing wrong with a social drink, however, try to consider what you are drinking and if you can cut down. For instance, if you’ve managed to successfully navigate an alcohol detox at home, it’s crucial to maintain the discipline that got you through it. Post-detox, it’s beneficial to evaluate your drinking habits and set realistic, manageable goals for yourself. Perhaps you could limit alcohol to special occasions or weekends only.
