Blending it up at the Vernissage at MOAD

What were you doing Thursday night? How about a lesson in blending South African wine with our tasting room manager and sommelier Danwin James?

On Thursday 16 April, The Maboneng Precinct in Johannesburg hosted a special re-opening and evening of events at the Museum of African Design (MOAD). Africa’s first museum dedicated to design, ideally located at Joburg’s cultural hub, it was an evening of design, wine, food, music and dancing.

MOAD

MOAD invited the cool and creative to preview its newly finished renovations and the first quarterly Vernissage, an introduction to the two new exhibitions celebrating African design and creativity. In keeping with our love and support of the arts, Backsberg is the exclusive wine supplier to MOAD for the year, working alongside MOAD’s dynamic director Aaron Kohn.

Guests were given the opportunity to blend their own wine from scratch. Danwin was on-hand to teach the basics and guide the blending. The winning blend of the evening (custom label and all) will be available for order.

Zuko Collective and DJ Just Themba sustained the vibe and kept guests grooving, while food from Soul Souvlaki, Blackanese, and Fabulous Burger Boys made sure no one was left hungry. Wine from Backsberg was served with a smile by Molecular Bars. It was an auspicious moment to be part of, and we were honoured to be the winery of choice.
