Pumphouse Shiraz is our feature wine for this month’s #WineWednesdays. Backsberg`s Pumphouse Shiraz is part of the top-tiered wine range, the Black Label range. The wine won a Silver medal at the International Wine & Spirits Challenge UK 2012, a Winemakers Choice Award 2012, a Gold medal at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2010 and a Bronze medal at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2013.

The mature vineyards used for The Pumphouse Shiraz show intense varietal character including black cherry, pepper and spice. Whilst full-bodied, the fruit is ripe and sweet and the tannins are soft. A subtle mint and vanilla complexity is derived from a period of maturation in barrel and enhances a long finish. The palate has weight and depth due to layers of fruit tannins and sheer flavour intensity. This wine is versatile and can be enjoyed on its own or with a rich meal.
