Introducing Hartenberg Estate’s Grande Dame, the Eleanor Chardonnay 2011

The Eleanor Chardonnay, which forms part of Hartenberg Estate’s range of Super Premium wines, pays homage to the matriarch of the Finalyson family who, with her husband Maurice, owned the farm (then known as Montagne) from 1948 to 1977. A strong and resolute woman, yet always sophisticated and poised, the Chardonnay is her perfect partner in wine.

An award-winning wine, which includes 4½ in the internationally recognised Platter Wine Guide as well as a gold medal at the 2012 International Wine and Spirits Competition, winemaker Carl Schultz describes the wine as displaying creamy citrus, nutty, mineral and Elderflower flavours with a refreshing acidity. An elegant wine with a persistent finish. The perfect wine to enjoy with rich foods such as Oysters, Scallop and Chardonnay Risotto with a Basil Cream Sauce, Cape Line fish and cheeses.

Available directly from the farm or through specialist wine stores, the Eleanor Chardonnay 2011 retails for approximately R199.50 per bottle.

Set in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands Hartenberg Estate is regarded as one of the leaders of the new era of South African winemaking, which was recognised by the then new owners in 1986. This kick started a process of change that has resulted in the Estate producing some of the most distinctive and sought after wines that the premium Stellenbosch wine-growing region has to offer.

The farm has accumulated many significant awards, among these being the No. 1 Shiraz in the world for The Stork Shiraz 2008 (France 2012), the best Merlot in the world (International Wine and Spirits Competition 2008) and third best Shiraz (Syrah du Monde 2008) as well as top ratings from Wine Spectator.
