Q: If you were a type of wine, what variety would you be?
A: Syrah – the thing with Syrah is that you need to leave it to do its own thing, let the wild child free, and at the end of the day it will amaze you with its complexity.

Q: What’s you favourite wine at Boekenhoutskloof?
A: The Journeyman 07 – yes, South Africa can make world class wines.

Q: Share a secret of Boekenhoutskloof that we probably don’t know?
A: Search for undiscovered gems hidden all over the Cape Wineland, put it in a favourable environment and see how nature unfolds its beauty – always be a step ahead of the process and never react.

Q: What cd is in your cd-player right now?

Q: What did you wanna be when you were a kid?
A: A doctor – never know I would be so fortunate to become a winemaker at my favourite property.

Q: Do you think people should eat the fish they catch, or just let them go?
A: My late grandfather (a legendary fisherman from Cape Agulhas) who was one of my inspirations in life – introduce me to one of the pleasures in life – Galjoen – you’ll never see me putting one of those back in the Indian Ocean.’ The Old Man and the Sea’ by Ernest Hemingway is my favourite book of all time – shows you what us fisherman will do to get the catch home.

A: My father’s ’72 VW Beetle

A: Kurt Darren

A: Like it is my last dance ever…

A: Che Guevara on his Norton 500 discovering South America and writing his “motorcycle diaries” – he lived his dream!

Q: What would you do in life if money was not a constraint?
A: Live on a island off the coast of central Africa, help developing the community and dig into their culture during the day, and sit on the beach at night with my wife and Weimaraner and drink Romanee-Conte and eat buckets of crayfish and abalone.
