Zonnebloem’s 2014 Limited Edition Sauvignon Blanc, lauded for its skilful combination of flinty and tropical characters to create a wine of great elegance, balance and complexity, has won a Veritas gold medal.

Grapes were sourced from two blocks on the same Darling property, with 70% of the blend derived from a vineyard yielding fruit with crisp, zesty, nettle flavours and the balance from a closely situated block delivering grapes with a profile of gooseberry, melon and figs.

“The result is richly layered and freshly invigorating,” says winemaker Elize Coetzee. “It literally wakes up the palate, so is immensely food-friendly.”

She recommends serving the wine with seafood prepared simply with olive oil and lemon juice, with foods prepared with tangy sauces and with creamy goat milk cheeses.
