KWV celebrates a Merry Mentors as its flagship range brings home the glitter in 2015

In 2015, wines in KWV’s flagship range, The Mentors, accumulated four Trophies, eleven Double Golds, twenty-three Golds, thirty-nine Silvers and thirty-eight bronzes – a tally of award sparkle that is indicative of this producer in Paarl’s dedication to produce wines that consistently offer exceptional drinking, even at a mature age.

This year, KWV The Mentors vintages, spanning 2008 to 2014, were entered into various local and international competitions and reviews and gathered praise and awards from a series of wine critics and judges: illustrating again why this is arguably South Africa’s most highly awarded single wine range.

KWV The Mentors highlights on the 2015 calendar include: KWV being named Producer of the Year for the fifth consecutive year at the prestigious Veritas wine awards, with KWV The Mentors claiming four Double Golds and three Golds on the evening. British Master of Wine (MW) Tim Atkin scoring sixteen of KWV The Mentors wines 90-points or higher in his South Africa Special 2015 Report. KWV The Mentors Canvas 2012 and 2013 included in the Top 4 wines in the annual Shiraz SA Wine Challenge. KWV The Mentors Chardonnay 2013 named one of the Top 10 Chardonnays out of 60 tasted in the annual Prescient Chardonnay Report 2015, and in the ultimate culmination of hard work and dedication, Chief Winemaker, Johann Fourie, was named Diner’s Club Winemaker of the Year for KWV The Mentors Pinotage 2013.

KWV The Mentors was established in 2006 to allow KWV winemakers the creative freedom to experiment with different vineyards, cellar practices and grape varieties. Wines bearing the KWV The Mentors label reflect the strict selection criteria which the KWV wine team applies in the making of the final product: a regime which is carried through from vineyard to final bottling.

Says Chief Winemaker Johann Fourie: “It gives me immense joy to reflect on 2015 with a sense of pride and achievement. KWV The Mentors tells the story of KWV’s stylistic evolution, but, without fail, it also tells the story of our winemaking team and their unwavering focus on creating wines of a celebrated quality. To my team and also our consumers, I’d like to wish a blessed festive season, and a merry 2016.”
