La Motte Releases 2020 Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc

La Motte’s premium Pierneef Collection with beautiful linocut artworks on the label, pays tribute to the mastership with which Pierneef has portrayed the beauty of the South African landscape. At the same time, however, the wine is a celebration of the art of winemaking and as such, La Motte cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche is delighted to introduce the 2020 Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc.

All the grapes for this wine originate from the most-southerly vineyards of South Africa with the 94% Sauvignon Blanc from Elim, Napier and Elgin and the 6% Semillon from Elim. It’ss always excited to see how this wine stays true to its Cape South Coast origin.

Each vineyard grows in its own macro climate and different clones are represented. Most soils have a shale original and with the cool conditions, low fertility and yields are maintained. Growing conditions were favourable with an adequately cold winter and mild summer. The harvest was slightly larger than normal and acids slightly lower.

The wine spent 16 hours on the lees with fermentation at approximately 14 degrees Celcius. It spent another 5 months on the fine lees before being blended and bottled in August 2020. 5000 x 6 were released.

Food Pairing

With ample complexity, the 2020 Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc is more than a refreshing aperitif and makes for a versatile partner on the dinner table. It is the ideal wine for summer feasting! Try it with whole-roasted Franschhoek Salmon Trout with seasonal greens.
