La Mouette Restaurant team set to launch new eatery in Green Point next month

A new quintessentially Cape Town restaurant called Upper Bloem opens in Somerset Road, Green Point next month.

The warm and inviting 40-seater takes a unique approach to offering a terroir experience in an urban environment. The launch of this novel eatery happens exactly (to the month) 8 years after the opening of celebrated La Mouette Restaurant in Seapoint. While both restaurants have chef patron, Henry Vigar in common, a young exceptional Cape Town local will be holding the reigns at Upper Bloem.

“Sitting at sunset on the balcony in my street, Upper Bloem in Bo Kaap, I’d look out over the city and the harbour. That’s where the dream started,” says Upper Bloem head chef, Andre Hill. Hill joined the La Mouette team as sous-chef in 2013 and impressed Vigar to such an extent that he was invited to co-create and subsequently co-own the soon-to-be launched Upper Bloem.

Offering a tempting selection of small plates comprising seasonal fare, the terroir approach extends beyond simply using local produce. It [terroir] refers to the uniqueness of Cape Town and draws inspiration from the port city’s mix of cultures and the influence that the confluence of people has had on local cuisine.

Expect to see modern techniques being applied to old favourites; a fine dining experience in a relaxed setting and a delectable journey of sharing plates reminiscent of the feeling of ‘home’.

Upper Bloem will be open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday; and on Tuesdays for dinner only. The estimated opening date is 4 May 2018.
