Laarman Wines Scores Its First Platter Five Star Accolade

Laarman Wines clinched two 5 stars in the 2022 Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide for their Laarman Wines Focal Point Chardonnay 2019 as well as the Laarman Wines Focal Point Cinsault 2019!

This remarkable double achievement marks winemaker Arco Laarman’s very first 5 stars from Platter.

“I am extremely happy with the results after three vintages of working on my own wines to achieve 5 stars on both my Focal Point wines. It is an affirmation that the vineyard sites I am working with are giving me the results I am looking for in my wines,” says Laarman.

After spending two decades at one of the Cape’s leading wineries in Paarl, Laarman embarked on his own in 2017 – cherry-picking grapes from different regions, creating award-winning site-specific wines, and masterfully crafting it into true expression from that terroir.

The grapes for the Focal Point Chardonnay 2019 hails from Vermaaklikheid – a unique coastal terroir of cooler-climate, late-ripening limestone soil vineyards.

Laarman went back to his roots in Paarl for the 2019 harvest of Focal Point Cinsault, a heritage grape variety he views as a South African flag-bearer on the international stage.

Other accolades for the Focal Point range

Focal Point Chardonnay 2019 and the Focal Point Cinsault 2019 already both achieved 91 points on the Tim Atkin MW South Africa Special Report 2021.

Furthermore, the Focal Point Cinsault 2019 was recently awarded a Silver award at the 2021 Old Mutual Trophy Show.

Arco was also nominated for the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year in 2018.

Where to buy the wines
