Whilst the adults relax under the trees cooled by the summer breezes the kids will be kept entertained for hours in the play area or alongside the river banks. Choose a table under the trees or lounge on cushions on the lawn with a beautifully packed picnic basket. All ingredients are locally sourced, free-range and complemented by home baked breads. R175 per person, which includes a bottle of estate wine to share between two. This season the picnic basket includes the popular Eleanor’s Snoek Pâté, Pesto Hummus as well as a selection of the finest local cheeses and charcuterie with unique accompaniments such as an Apple and Beetroot Chutney. Tuck into a succulent Pork, Lamb, Chicken and Pistachio Terrine or freshly baked Caramelised Onion and Goat’s Cheese Tart.

Complement the meal with a New Potato Salad with a Wholegrain Mustard Dressing or Caprese Salad. End off your picnic experience with seasonal fruit served with crushed White Chocolate Meringue.

If you prefer a more formal dining experience Hartenberg’s summer inspired menu is perfect. Chardonnay is the theme for the first part of summer and includes succulent grilled Lamb Chops served with a Caper, Anchovy and Parsley Oil dressing. Accompanying this unconventional food and wine pairing combination is a Ricotta and Gourgette Timbal and home made Potato Crisps.

For the healthier option, choose between Beef Carpaccio with refreshing Pickled Mushrooms, Rocket and Parmesan shavings, or poached Chicken in a Harissa Yoghurt dressing served on a Chickpea Socca. Great with Riesling too!

And for those with a sweet tooth be sure not to miss out on the most heavenly and decadent Dark Chocolate Meringue Hazelnut Semi Freddo served with a Mint Infused Cream.

Children under 12 can look forward to tucking into a delicious hamburger and crisps, served with a Ceres fruit juice. Dessert is a Strawberry Coulis topped Yoghurt Mousse. The cost is R65 per child and this offering applies to both the picnic and summer menu.
