Legendary beer gets crafted bottle

Pilsner Urquell has unveiled a new amber coloured bottle for the world’s oldest Pilsner-styled beer, which will be available in selected local outlets in South Africa from the end of September. The original Pilsner, which is also regarded as the world’s first clear beer, has been part of Plzen, Czech Republic since 1842 and is still crafted with the same soft Plzen water, Saaz hops from Zatec and Czech barley from Moravia.

The new 330ml bottle featuring a retro-style new label, has also been rolled out in other markets such as the USA and large parts of Europe,  is a celebration of the generations of Czechs that have maintained the integrity and labour of love behind the beer.

“We are delighted to be introducing a distinguished look and feel to what is arguably the most distinguished beer and beer brand in the world,” says SAB Global Brands General Manager Carmen Mohapi. “We hope our discerning consumers will join us as we celebrate this new chapter in the life of Pilsner Urquell, and hope that new people will make the discovery of this beautiful liquid and also become ‘keepers of the craft’ / join us as we keep the true spirit of craftsmanship alive and thriving”, concludes Mohapi.

Pilsner Urquell is a popular favourite among those looking for a unique and truly full flavoured beer. The world’s first and original pilsner from Pilsen, has an intensely hoppy, full-bodied flavour and a characteristically fine bitterness against a background of honey-sweetness.

According to Brewer Petr Kofron, its flavour profile is uncompromised since the day it was created and it continues to delight discerning beer drinkers around the world. “Subtle malty sweetness and caramel tones from the open-flame triple decoction, pairs well with the assertive bitterness from the triple-hopped Czech Saaz. The beer is slowly fermented and matured for more than five weeks,” says Kofron.
