Lloyd Webber’s wine sells for £3.5m at auction

A selection of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s wine collection went under the hammer in Hong Kong this weekend, raising $5.6 million (£3.5 million).

The Sotheby’s sale, which took place at the Mandarin Oriental hotel on Saturday, included almost 9,000 bottles of French wines.

There were 746 lots included — the most expensive case of wine auctioned was a 1982 Chateau Petrus 1982. This case of 12 bottles reached $77,564 (£48,500).

The collection’s sale price exceeded price expectations and Lloyd Webber said he was pleased. “I hope the new owners enjoy my wines as much as I have and I look forward to reacquainting myself with them in restaurants all over China,” he said.
