At 10:00 am on Tuesday two palettes in front of the Stellenbosch Vineyards warehouse caught fire and 30 minutes later the whole building was engulfed in flames. By 11:00 the fire department had the blaze under control, but not before thousands of bottles of wine were lost.

The fire, according to Mrs Delana Green, Operations Manager and emergency controller at Stellenbosch Vineyards, the on-site fire chief and warehouse manager reported the incident to her and evacuation officers reacted immediately.

On what caused the fire, Mrs Green shared that currently, investigations are in process to ascertain the cause. “The process of evacuation was swift, with no casualties. All staff and visitors conducted themselves in an orderly fashion, all accounted for, and allowed the emergency services professionals to do their work,” she shared.

Navito post the following on their facebook:

Dear loyal customers, friends, family, and followers…. today we lost everything. 40 000 bottles, 3 vintages from 2014 to 2017. Its all gone. We are distraught. This means that unfortunately, for the time being until further notice, Nativo wines will not be selling.

Not only is this a huge loss as a business, but as creators and artists we are heartbroken. It is some very deep sense of heartbreak when 3 years worth of art, creations, and hard work suddenly go up in smoke.

However, as in our winemaking and viticulture, we believe in a natural cycle of life, and that everything has its proper place. Hopefully in the next few weeks, it will become clear to us what the lesson is in this, and we can use it to grow in the future. To a new beginning….

Please share so that everyone who buys wine from us will get the news. Many thanks
