Never A Dull Moment at Creation Wines

With ‘Peak Season’ virtually over, we’re delighted to report that the Creation Tasting Room is still buzzing with activity. And so are our vineyards and cellar!

Vineyard Update
The hard work and preparation for the 2014 harvest is starting to pay off, with 50% of the Pinot Noir block having started veraison. Veraison is the growth stage of the vine which sees the transition from berry growth to the onset of ripening and is most noticeable in red grapes varieties as they start to change from green to red. There is a less noticeable change from green to yellow in white cultivars. This stage signals the start of sugar accumulation in the berry and is an important indicator of expected harvest date. In the meantime the grapes are constantly monitored and at full veraison all underdeveloped and totally green bunches will be removed to benefit the final 2014 vintage. Click here to read our blog

Cellar Update
At the time of writing the cellar at Creation is a hive of activity as we expand our production facilities. With a newly planted 1.75 ha of Pinot Noir coming into production in the next few years, as well as a natural increase in yields as the existing vineyards reach maturity, we expect the harvest to breach 300 tons. To accommodate this we have installed 100 000 litres of new stainless steel tank space, suspending tanks above existing floor space. The increased capacity will also allow our cellarmaster JC Martin to move all production of our second label, Whale Pod, onto site, giving total control over the process from grape to bottle.
