New Achievements And Words Of Advice From Waverley Hills

Normally a newsletter will start with…well…news.  But we would like to take a different approach this time around.

Not only do we want to inform you, our reader of what Waverley Hills has achieved these past two months, but we would also like to give you a little hope and advice for the months that are still left in 2019.

The team at Waverley Hills takes time now and then to reflect on what has been done and achieved in the passing months.  This boosts our confidence and fuels us to keep going with the tasks at hand.

So here it goes, what we achieved since our last newsletter:

SMV 2014 (Shiraz Mourvèdre Viognier) – Three more Gold Awards

This brings the total awards for our Rhone-style blend to eight.

De Huijsbosch 2017 – A Gold and a Silver

Finally some recognition for our beautiful Bordeaux-style blend. This is the first time our Cab Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend receive an award…and another award. It’s as if it wants to catch up with the rest. ·

CW Reserve Shiraz 2016 – A Silver

Our 2015 vintage received a few awards. However, we are sold out and moved on to the 2016. Hopefully, this will be the first award of many for our 100% Shiraz.

  • Veritas 2019 – Silver

PS: Our CW Reserve Shiraz 2019 have already received the Bacchus Trophy for Champion Wine in the Tulbagh District.

SA Olive Membership Award 2019

Martha Klaas from Waverley Hills

Martha Klaas got second place at the award ceremony of this mentorship program and we couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishment. Martha Klaas got a special mention at the 2019 SA Olive Awards during the announcement of the 2019 mentorship programme winner. And it is easy to see why. Martha is a strong woman with a big dream, and she does not hesitate to share her knowledge and time with others. She embodies the meaning of Ubuntu – something she learned at the feet of her mother whilst growing up in Sterkspruit, Eastern Cape. Besides being a general worker at Waverley Hills Farm, she also assists in bridging language barriers at work and in her community by acting as an interpreter.

October is the time of year where a lot of people look at their diary and think:

“There is still so much to do and so little time to do it.”

However, in our experience that only causes anxiety, so our advice to you (other than enjoying a glass of your favorite Waverley Hills wine) is to instead look at what you have achieved so far.  Looking at what has been ticked off your list will give you a sense of accomplishment and hope for the tasks ahead.

So pour yourself a glass of wine and pat yourself on the shoulder, because even though there may be a few tasks outstanding, you have already achieved so much in this year and can, therefore, be proud of yourself.
