Named for the surrounding dockyards and located within view of the picturesque tugboat moorings and the waters of Cape Town harbour, The Yard is an exciting new hybrid concept store-cum-bistro-bar that is set to become the go-to retail and dining experience of the recently launched Silo District at the V & A Waterfront.

The Yard will shine with carefully selected options that cater with style to both local and international visitors, as well as the surrounding local businesses and residents. And there are choices aplenty!

There’s a retail zone featuring curated displays of urban-friendly homeware and accessories, which merges seamlessly with a delicatessen purveying fine chocolates, preserves, charcuterie, home-made pasta, and farm-fresh cheeses. The deli also incorporates a food-on-the-go section with an array of smoothies, and house-made iced teas and flavoured water, as well as Rosetta Roastery Coffee. It’s ideal for grabbing a quick cuppa, a bite at lunchtime, or powering up after a workout – after all, The Yard is located directly below the Virgin Active Collection Silo District.

Just alongside the deli and coffee bar, is a fresh salad and warm buffet section with an offering, which changes daily. The buffet is located adjacent the main bar, and here, the beautiful marble and copper bar counters provide the perfect spot to enjoy after-work drinks and snacks with friends.

What’s more, if you’re looking for a refined and upscale tasting experience, there is a fine dining section that will be open for lunch and dinner. The flavourful menu will excite many palettes as it flawlessly spans world cuisine, paying homage to Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Oriental and Indian influences.

This progressive, global offering is the brainchild of dynamic retailer and hospitality visionary, Abigail Bisogno, and her business partner, the successful restaurateur, GP Singh. Bisogno explains: “The inspiration for The Yard came from my wine farm background, and my creation of the Spice Route Destination in Paarl, together with my partner’s experience in the food industry over the last 15 years.” 

Although the two come from vastly different cultures – Bisogno was raised in the Cape Winelands and Singh hails from the Punjab in India – they share a combined love for fusion and collaboration, which they wanted to express in the formation of The Yard.

“GP and I share a vision and passion for Euro-Asian cuisine that seeks to unify Asia-Indian-European flavours,” she explains. “We intend to make our new space in the Silo District the destination where this type of food and our unique brand of retail can be experienced and enjoyed!”

The Yard is scheduled to open on 6 October 2017 from 07h30 to 22h30 every day.
